With very few places to eat in Mountain Home, I wanted to like this place. I've been there a few times, each time was horrible. I got a iced tea, they charged me .75 a refill when most restaurants they are free. They even charged for a doggie bag! The food is gross. I'm really surprised this restaurant has stayed open as long as it has. I would suggest you don't waste your time or money on this place. Go to Smokey Mountain or even AJs is better.

The food is good but waited for 20 minutes no one came so we left and they weren't paying attention and we were pretty much the only person there. There as one more group!! Just go through the drive threw if u want fast and to not go through the drive threw don't go here but their food and ice cream is awesome ice cream is BIG

I don't get why people like this place, my husband and I gave it two chances thinking it was just what we had ordered. Our first time there we ordered a lemonade among other things, and it was frozen limeade instead but they refused to give us a refund or a different drink even tho THEY had brought us the wrong drink! The food was awful. Oh, and they didn't give our 3 kids the toys they were promised with their meals. We went back a second time a few months later and this time got a shake and fries. The prices were outrageous and my husband said the shake was gross and I got a handful of fries for the $4 we spent on them!! I would recommend not wasting your money here!

Had lunch here with a group of colleagues. The food came out quickly, I ordered a cheeseburger thinking there's no way to screw that up. Wrong. Frozen patty at a diner?? Was expecting better and fresher. After all was said and done I find a hair in my chip fries. Never returning to this place for food. Maybe a milkshake. Friendly waitress and prompt drink refills. The locals like it but since I'm no local they missed the mark for me.

Grinde's Diner is 50s Malt Shop meets Roadside Diner. I walked in and immediately felt very comfortable amid the splendid decor and the greeting of a friendly waitstaff. People were busy eating and talking looking comfortable with their surroundings which is a good sign. The menu was packed with many tasty options but for my first time here I thought about trying a tried and true classic that should be perfected by a place like this, so I ordered the Grinde Burger (see pic), seasoned fries and an iced tea. As I waited I looked over their menu some more and was quickly brought my iced tea. It was tall and the right color, a light brown, but it was packed with crushed ice which not only makes it hard to stir in your sweetener of choice but little ice pellets come up the straw when suction is applied. A small faux paus and nothing to get too upset about. My burger and fries came quickly enough. What they call seasoned fries I envisioned regular fries with a Cajun or seasoned salt sprinkle was actually what I know as Curly Fries. Acceptable, not quite what I was in the mood for, but I should have asked. They were very good nonetheless. The burger was large! It was pleasant to look at and required some thought about fitment into my slightly salivating mouth. It was piled high with pickle, cheese, bacon, an egg and a slice of ham. I cut it in half and took my picture of my meal for this review and then dug into my lunch. At the end I was satisfied and happy. As I ate I watched the staff working with other people and was enjoying watching some excellent customer service. An older lady walked in ask the waitress if the outside tables were okay to use as she had dogs and wanted to feed them when she ate. It was hot that day, about 92 with considerable humidity. The lady was seated outside and quickly the staff brought her not only water for herself, but for the dogs too, moved the umbrella for maximum shade and as I progressed through my meal there was constant attention for the lady and her dogs comfort. This scored big points with me as a dog lover. If you're motoring through Mountain Home on I-84 it is worth the longish detour to experience Grinde's.

What can brown do for you? Get you a better restaurant review! C'mon, everyone wants a nice golden brown on their food! The grilled onions were pale white, the hash browns were pale white, fried eggs had no crispy golden brown edges, the toast was warm bread and the bacon fat was still white! Yikes! I had to send it back for more time on the flat top. Traveling through & saw this place had decent reviews and at least more reviews than most. We didn't feel like Mexican & needed a wider range of options for our group so we gave it a go. We got the two egg breakfast and a salad. Too bad we were too full for the homemade ice cream! (We were so hungry we would have eaten almost anything). The fact that everyone there was ordering ice cream was a pretty good clue about what to order. Go for dessert ONLY!

Real nice. They have chem masks hanging from the ceiling.....just in case we go to MOPP4 while enjoying a chicken fried steak and eggs with a side of hashbrowns.

One full menu, just for drinks?!?!? Fabulous!!! My husband and I had the Roy Rogers and they were delicious! Huge glasses, but no refills so don't drink it all before your food comes! I had the patty melt (yum) and the hubby had The SinkBurger. He loved it. If I am ever in Mountain Home, ID again, we will definitely return. Loved this place!!!

I loved the experience from start to finish, the food was good. However the kid friendly environment was the best part, I took my rambunctious grand kids and the staff never blinked an eye. I would recommend this diner to anyone.

Yaaay Grindes! I love me some good diner food and that's exactly what they have. Their croissant breakfast sandwich is cheap and delicious and therefor perfect imho. I like to get me some tater tots and a chocolate dipped cone (best I can do with no Dairy Queen around) and it satisfies my sweet and salty cravings. The selection of different shakes you can get is pretty impressive as well, but I like to keep it simple. The service is always good, they seem to keep on top of things which is nice. Anyhow great place to stop when I want something while in town.

Awesome breakfast. Love to go to Grindes every Saturday. My favorite restaurant in Mountain Home.

Grinde's is definitely a good place for some comfort food. I had the chili cheese baked Idaho potato and cookie dough ice cream for dessert. It was good food, with good enough service and an okay atmosphere. I would go back just because in Mountain Home it's probably the best place to eat.

We have been here twice, the inside is very diner like, food is just okay I got "The French" it was soggy and the strawberries were from a can. I asked for the meat side to be put on a separate plate since I'm a vegetarian and my husband was going to eat it, yet they still placed it on the same plate as the rest of the sides. I don't think I would come back to give it a 3rd try. I would come to just get coffee!!

It looked plain from the outside but once you stepped in, a nostalgic feeling hits you. I'm not from the States but it do remind me of what I saw in the movies. Lots of decors, very nicely done. Actually had a history to it(the diner). Staffs are very friendly too. Now to the food, the portion may vary depending on what you ordered. For the breakfast, $7.99 meals are BIG, $6.99 would be a comfy meal for most. Large selection of food in general but loved their breakfast no matter what, for a cheap price too. They even had a menu solely for milkshakes! Did I tell you it is a must try? Their drinks are large in portion too! And are served quickly when you've settled down. Hope you enjoy your meal here :)

Gross. Simply gross. Food was totally cold and tasted horrible. Service was awful. Portions were tiny. The waitress asked how the food was, we told her bad and all she said was "sorry". She offered to refill our coffees only after clearing our table. Manhattan Bistro is a hundred times better.

Food is sloppy, it seems like the cooks are there for a pay check and nothing more. Service has never been an issue.

The service is ok. Nothing is special here. There is no unique draw to this location. The prices are high, the portions are small the water tastes odd and to top it off the staff is not that great. I would recommend AJs over this place hands down.

I have went here twice. Both times were really bad. Food was not cooked all the way, and the food was cold. Never get the ribs they were completely dried out and crunchy like they had been siting out for days. My husband had hair in his food the last time he went with friends. I don't know how this place gets that many stars. This place is ridiculous and will never go again. I absolutely will not recommend to a friend. This place is gross.

What a cool diner! Many places try to mimic a classic style diner like this one but it's the real deal. Our waitress Alyssa was attentive, thoughtful, and quick even when it was busy. The menu is filled with creative comfort food as well as classic burgers and many other options. The fries look awesome and the milkshakes are some of the most refreshing I've ever had. There's great coffee and the list of pies was more than you could shake a stick at. A Mountain Homes gem for sure.

If you've ever been stationed to Mountain Home Air Force Base, the very first thing you notice is just how far away the base is from everything. Boise to Mountain Home (town) exit = 45 minutes drive; first town exit to Mountain Home = 10 minutes drive; Mountain Home (town) to Mountain Home AFB = 10 minutes (estimated). It's somewhere between Twin Peaks and the Outer Limits, with the landscape of Fargo, with as much sage brush, yellow grass, and whistlepigs as possible. Grinde's is one of the restaurants that made Mountain Home AFB tolerable; even though you're in the middle of No Man's Land, you can still get a great hamburger and french fries made from fresh, Idaho-grown potatoes. Grinde's is the 50's style roadside diner, complete with the decor and memorabilia, and with the friendly service that seems to date back several decades ago. The food is great, from the breakfasts to the hamburgers, and the speciality potato dishes, all with considerable portions. It is assured that you will not leave Grinde's hungry. The Grinde Burger is still my personal favorite, although I may never eat one again unless I end up back in Mountain Home somehow. The sole downside is the sheer distance of Grinde's from the freeway (and most of Idaho for that matter). It is a great local spot, especially for military members on their way to and from work, as the restaurant is situated just outside of the town close to Airbase Road. But the distance may deter you from stopping by, especially if you're cutting across southern Idaho on I-84 in a hurry. But should you find yourself in Mountain Home and in need of a burger and potato-related goodness, you won't be disappointed by stopping in Grinde's.

I ate here pretty often during my initial months living in Mtn Home. Grinde's has a 50's diner decor The service is polit and friendly, and the food is your typical diner food. The ice cream and shakes are really good.

We found this place via Yelp when we pulled off the interstate to gas up and decided to get some lunch. It's not exactly easy to get to from the highway, but I'd have to say it was worth the effort if you have a little time to kill. Typical diner food and decor - huge collection of Coke memorabilia and lots of license plates and old records line the walls. One thing that was missing was music, a true diner staple. Also, breakfast is only served in the morning until 10 a.m. - that definitely flies in the face of "diner standards." Our waitress was pleasant and efficient but our lunches - sandwiches and sides - were not remarkable. It also seemed to take a long time to get our meals once they were ordered - 15 minutes or so seems a bit long for sandwiches when there weren't many other patrons. This place should probably be viewed more as a novelty than a serious eating establishment.

Aptly described as "Shame Food" by Kevin, this place has plenty of stuff to bomb your belly. Big burgers, biscuits n' gravy, various types of potato products smothered in various toppings, fried chicken, fried everything... Even elephant ears. And an entire separate menu for shakes, sundaes, and sodas. Ronnie ordered the Fried Chicken dinner, and received what he called "a leg and some other parts, maybe chicken knuckle or somethin'" . The food all around was pretty mediocre, but the 'Merican sized portions hit the spot after a night in a cabin at Bruneau Dunes State Park, battling flies and desert rats, and warding off coyotes by spitting 100 proof whiskey into the fire. We may never be the same again. I recommend just ordering something small, and going for a milkshake. The pistachio was so good that I nearly cried. 4 stars for that alone.
